Part 10: Wolfslayers.

Now that his parents have taken over the mill and have a house in the village, Maxwell decides to leave the monastery and go live in Boggsgate. There he can continue his investigation into a ring of conspirators who conspire against the Crown.

After having been awake for hours Dagar is finally resting. His dreams are troubled by nightmares about notes and pigeon man who tortures him while he is lying in a cage.

Suddenly the village is roused by a terrible scream. From the house of Korin screams and strange noises are heard. Maxwell pounces the door open and with Dagar on his heels hurries inside. Noklin and Julian who were made ready for burial are now trying to kill Korin, Julian’s father. Maxwell immediately runs over to free Korin while Dagar tries to keep the undead Julian from leaving the house. Ashera and Mitch also run in and Noklin and Julian are swiftly send back to the other side.

Ashera examines the bodies and finds strange arcane markings on both of them. Everybody agrees that this must be the hand of Masheth. They plan to burn the bodies instead of bury them. Ashera asks Holand to stay with Korin and keep an eye on the old man.

Mitch receives a letter from his uncle with some good and some bad news. The good news is that he can expect weapons soon, the bad news is he won’t get extra men and Mitch’s father is coming to Boggsgate.

Dagar receives a letter from the mayor of Siggeldale informing him that she can’t send weapons. What Boggsgate can expect is a group of wolfhunters because of the wolf plague.

While Dagar is making arrangements for the burning of the bodies he hears that the beer for Kronor’s Eve is still not delivered yet. Expecting the worst Dagar, Mitch, Ashera and Maxwell ride out to investigate. It is almost dark when they find the cart with the horse dead. The two militia men who were send out lie wounded at the side of the road.

They recall that they were attacked by bandits who took everything and tried to kill them. Ashera heals their wounds and they all get back to the village. There Dagar promises Corbyn the pig farmer to do a nightly vigil and to help protect the pigs. First they get together at Mitch’s house to enjoy some of Kat’s cooking.

Maxwell is still trying to find pieces of the conspirators puzzle and asks them about the pigeon man. Dagar pulls out the note they took from the pigeon man and together they find what the letters on the note stand for. They now have the names of the conspirators against the Crown.

At the pig farm they set up watches an during the second watch a flock of Blood Hawks fly over but don’t appear for the rest of the night. During the early hours three men arrive in the village. This is also the time that Dagar breaks the news to Ashera that there are wolf hunters expected. Taking this as a warning Ashera commands Timor into the Worg necklace. Maxwell enters the inn to take a good look at the men and sees that these men are related to his enemy who killed his whole squad. He decided to leave and not get into confrontation with them yet.

Later that morning one of the wolf slayers harasses and attacks Kat. She escapes out of the inn. But in the middle of the street she gets caught again, right under the eyes of the group. This leads to a deadly confrontation where Dagar gets severly wounded and Mitch shows that nobody touches his girl.

After the smoke has cleared Cyra and Ashera take Dagar home to tend his wounds.

Maxwell sees his arch enemy turn his horse at the gate of the village and ride off.
