The meeting is over. Mitch has made a list of supplies the Mountain will need. Ashera and Dagar are making plans to rescue the remaining villagers. Mitch suspects a trap and urges them to consider but the feeling of guilt for not rescuing all villagers remains. Mitch asks Ashera to spy on the village from the Crowsnest to see if their plan is possible. After spying on the village the decision to go to Rosecourt is made. To show off his new clothes Mitch shows the trick he learned from Toar. If Ashera and Dagar try it their armor changes to a beautiful suit and a dress.
In the meantime Mitch and Maxwell go to the prison to check on Chamberlain Pascale. When they come to his cell they see a girl instead of Pascale. She is crying and pleading to be let out. Mitch asks who put her in the cell and she explains that a blond bearded soldier forced her to join him and brought her here. Mitch opens the cell door and they take the girl back to the upper level.
There they inform Dagar and Ashera about the escape. Dagar immediately informs prince Harrol, who commands the soldiers to report. Two soldiers are brought forward and ask to explain their whereabouts. But if they turn around to ask the girl, she is gone. Dagar starts a search. When they find the girl she explains that she has never left her chamber. Dagar and Mitch get all villagers together and start to question them one by one. Ashera visits Kat in the kitchen where she lets Timor loose from the necklace. Kat feeds Timor. While the wolf is eating Kat admires the fabric of Ashera’s new dress. Later Ashera visits the smithy but also here nobody has visited in the last hours.
Dagar gets more and more frustrated when he can’t find Chamberlain Pascale or the intruder that is imposing the Chamberlain. And slowly the creeping feeling of paranoia starts to overcome the group. They feel that they can’t believe anybody anymore.
The Duke who is still somewhat hurt hears from his son that there is a quick way to get to Rosecourt and now he wants to go home. To distract the Duke, Maxwell takes him to the war room where he gives a small tour keeping the Duke out of the way of the search.
When Timor gets to the upper level with Ashera he smells a strange odor. He starts to sniff out everybody who is present. Soldiers that are still in the main hall all get sniffed but nobody seems to interest Timor. Then Timor walks into the war room and starts to growl at the Duke. The Duke explains that dogs don’t like him and that the feeling is mutual. Prince Harrol concurs. Still not convinced Dagar starts to interrogate the Duke. Dagar pleads with the Prince to ask some personal questions. The Duke can answer all his questions, but this still not convinces them.
When the Duke asks to be brought back to Rosecourt, Mitch tells him he will take him. He signals the rest to follow him and takes the Duke with the elevator to the prison. At the prison he invites the Duke to step out the elevator and follow him. But the Duke is not willing to go further. Mitch tries to convince the Duke that this is the way to Rosecourt when the Duke jumps back in the elevator and graps Berin, the boy that Mitch assigned to operate the lift. He threatens to kill the boy if they come closer. Ashera, bow in hand, shoots the duke and Mitch follows up with a shot from his pistol. The Duke is still standing and kills Berin by breaking his neck. A massive fight follows that eventually leaves the Duke death on the floor. Then his body starts to change into a green brown humanoid, oozing a greenish blood. The thing has large black eyes and no eyelids and a large hole for a mouth.
Still shocked about the death of Berin, they take the bodies back to the upper floor. In the rest room they find the real body of the Duke hidden in a closet. They lay the body of Berin in a separate room and Ashera breaks the news to his parents.
Holand investigates the body of the real Duke and concludes that his neck is broken. Then he looks at the monstrosity and asks everybody to leave the room. If he is alone with Ashera he tells her he has seen such a creature once in the land of the Elves, and that is called a Changeling. An assassin and spy send by the Darkness. Ashera tells Holand about the visit of Lorregale in her room. He clarifies some of Ashera’s questions.
Musing about his latest dream Dagar calls Cyra and Prince Harrol to the war room. Sitting next to each other Dagar sees a family resemblance between them. And he tells Cyra that he thinks she is King Harrol’s daughter. Cyra doesn’t really believe him. And prince Harrol was too young to remember.
Then it’s time to go to Rosecourt. With prince Harrol and the soldiers they arrive in the tomb. Seeing the close resamblance between Mitch, Dagar and the statues of Boggnar and Thorolf, the soldiers start to whisper among each other. Outside the tomb the Prince has send a soldier to get General Grayhan. The General arrives and takes in the group. He has a short talk with the prince and then he escorts the group towards the military district, away from the eyes of the city folk. Inside the district more statues of Boggnar and Thorolfs are seen. Then they arrive at a house and are brought in. The general takes Maxwell and the prince to another room to get updated. The rest gets food and drink and then wait for the return of the general.
